Specific Responsibilities:
Warehouse Safety & Training:
- Lead AIB audit preparation, including corrective actions, facility improvements, documentation, and audit readiness activities.
- Partner with the Director of Operations to develop and deliver safety training programs and onboarding for Operations team members.
- Train staff on the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), safe lifting techniques, material handling procedures, and emergency response protocols.
- Provide training on the safe operation and basic maintenance of warehouse equipment, including forklifts, stand-up lifts, pallet jacks, balers, and shrink-wrap machines.
- Coordinate emergency preparedness activities, including fire drills and evacuation procedures.
- Conduct and document monthly facility safety inspections, identify hazards, and ensure corrective actions are completed.
- Investigate and report safety incidents, hazards, and near-miss events.
- Promote a culture of safety and compliance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements.
Cleaning, Pest Control and Food Safety:
- Maintain facility and grounds cleanliness in compliance with Feeding America, GMP, AIB, and Second Harvest standards.
- Ensure weekly, monthly, and quarterly cleaning schedules are completed and properly documented.
- Oversee the facility pest control program, including fly light inspections, log maintenance, and coordination with contracted providers.
- Ensure warehouse, office, common areas, and restrooms are clean, stocked, and maintained daily.
- Coordinate grounds maintenance activities, including mowing, trimming, litter removal, weed control, snow removal, and salting of walkways as needed.
- Coordinate and supervise volunteers assisting with landscaping and grounds maintenance.
- Maintain temperature logs and related records for freezers, coolers, and other monitored areas.
- Monitor HVAC, refrigeration, freezer, and cooler systems to ensure proper operation and food safety compliance.
Facility, Equipment and Truck Maintenance:
- Coordinate preventive maintenance, inspections, repairs, and service activities for fleet vehicles, facility systems, and warehouse equipment.
- Maintain equipment and vehicle service records and ensure compliance with applicable regulations, insurance requirements, and safety standards.
- Coordinate transportation of vehicles and drivers for maintenance appointments as needed.
- Oversee maintenance, inspection, and calibration of warehouse equipment, including forklifts, stand-up lifts, pallet jacks, balers, shrink-wrap machines, and scales.
- Coordinate testing and maintenance of fire suppression systems and maintain required documentation.
- Perform general facility maintenance, including painting, minor repairs, and building upkeep.
- Manage vendor contracts related to HVAC, refrigeration, snow removal, equipment service, and other facility maintenance needs.
- Monitor facility, equipment, and vehicle conditions and proactively address maintenance needs to minimize downtime and maintain safe operations.
Offsite Storage:
- Conduct regular visits to the offsite storage facility to monitor operations and promptly address any issues that arise.
- Coordinate with department staff and drivers to schedule deliveries to and pickups from the offsite storage facility.
General Responsibilities:
- Assisting in the warehouse on an as needed basis to support operations including pulling orders assigned and replenishing pick locations.
- Coordinate with other departments as necessary to ensure efficient operations
- Uphold the Core Values and mission of Second Harvest at all times.
- Display courtesy and respect at all times to Second Harvest employees, volunteers, donors, member agencies, and the general public.
- Maintain confidentiality in all matters pertaining to Second Harvest.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Valid Driver’s License.
- High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or technical training in facilities maintenance, industrial maintenance, safety, logistics, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in facility maintenance, warehouse operations, fleet maintenance coordination, safety compliance, or related field.
- Proficient computer Skills, including MS Outlook, Word and Excel.
- Experience working in a warehouse, distribution, manufacturing or food storage environment preferred.
- Experience coordinating vendors, contractors, and maintenance service providers.
- Experience training employees on workplace safety procedures is preferred.
Education/Training:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- SERV Safe Food Safety Certification (will train)
- CPR/AED & First Aid every two years (will train)
- USDA Civil Rights Training for Food Distribution (will train)
- OSHA 10-Hour General Industry Certification, preferred
- Certified in forklift and stand-up lift.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
This position requires constant standing and/or walking. Frequent bending, lifting, stooping, carrying, and/or reaching is required. This position requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis. The ability to work in various temperatures with extreme heat or cold periodically is required. At times, this position works outdoors.
