The school year is off to a strong start and so is Second Harvest’s School Pantry program. The five sites that were part of the pilot program last year are all going to be participating again this year. They are all middle schools in the Lorain, Clearview and Midview school districts. Elyria School District is participating this year for the first time.
The School Pantry Program is designed to alleviate child hunger through the provision of food to children, their families, and the immediate school community. Our mobile markets, located at six area schools, are intended to provide a more readily accessible source of food assistance to low income students and their families. Elyria City School debuted their program on Monday, September 23 at Elyria High School. In total,150 families were able to get fresh produce, food and groceries at this distribution. Check out the upcoming schedule for direct distributions and School Pantry Programs for October HERE.
