A Note From Julie

A Note From Julie

“Alone, we can do so little; together, we can do so much.” – Helen Keller As we have been commemorating our 40th anniversary, I have spent some time reflecting on the values and ideas of our founders and the many committed people that came before me that have made Second Harvest a community anchor. There are several things that stood out to me: resilience, adaptability, conviction, and commitment to mission. Throughout our history as well as now, our mission has been tested by circumstances, policies, and events outside of our control. But at every turn, we have persevered.

How have we been able to do this? Well, because of you, our community. Whether it has been an economic crisis, pandemic, or a policy change that impacts families, we are fortunate that we work as partners, hand in hand to adapt and flourish.

As we continue to work our way through the effects of the pandemic, our communities are still facing economic hardships and look to us for help. We are feeling those hardships here at Second Harvest as prices are high, food is challenging to secure, and safety nets are dissolving. Times like these can feel overwhelming and hopeless. But as I reflect on where we have been and the challenges we have faced, I am confident that our community will persevere. That is what we have done for 40 years.

The school year is underway, and the school pantries will be stocked. Our staff and volunteers will be ready at mobile drive-through pantries. Our network of over 100 partner charities will be ready. Our commitment to our mission has never been stronger. Together, we can grow hope. I hope to see you on September 25th at our 17th Annual Generous Helpings event.
